Immigration and Domestic Violence

Immigration and Domestic ViolenceDomestic Violence is a Deportable Offense in Nevada

Any alien or non-citizen going through the immigration process is at risk of being deported if convicted of domestic violence.

Conviction of a crime of domestic violence, stalking, child abuse, child neglect, or child abandonment is a deportable offense.

To trigger this ground of deportation, a conviction is required. A disposition in juvenile court will not constitute a conviction. If a person is to be deported due to a domestic violence conviction, the domestic violence conviction must have occurred after admission into the United States in order to trigger deportation. Generally admission means lawful entry into the United States after inspection and authorization. A lawful permanent resident who has left the United States and is returning is not considered to be seeking admission except under certain circumstances.
